This comes at a time when weakening Nandi Senator Stephen Arap Sang is facing hostility from the electorate after he was chased away from a series of his campaign rallies over the weekend by locals.

Mr Sang has been accused by members of the Kalenjin community of ‘fixing’ Deputy President William Ruto at the International Criminal Court in Netherlands on crimes against humanity stemming from the 2007/ 2008 Post-election violence.

Already, opinion polls have already put HKK ahead of other candidates if elections were to be held today.

Mr Kosgey has the support of 36 per cent followers of the ruling Jubilee Party of Kenya ahead of former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskey who is at 21 per cent.

According to reliable sources and insiders, Mr Koskey is expected to decamp to Isaac Rutto’s Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party following the stiff competition he is facing from Mr Kosgey.

Mr Koskey is also accused of using 100 acres of government land to plant potatoes.

A move that did not go down well with the President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto led government.

Mr Koskey fears that he might be denied the Jubilee Party ticket as he is not in good books with the ruling administration over the graft allegations that tainted the Kenyatta government as corrupt.

Over the weekend, Mr Kosgey pitched tent in Tinderet Sub-County where he addressed rallies in parts of Songhor, Soba center, Mombwo, Kapkulumben and Cheptonon. The rallies were well attended pulling mammoth crowds.

Mr Kosgey used the opportunity to present a startup capital of Sh200, 000 to registered youths groups involved in timber business.

“The youth have not enjoyed youth empowerment to the maximum for a very long time. Women want change, they are tired of moribund leadership and I am commited to improving their livelihood moving forward,” said Mr Kosgey.

It is a big tragedy for the current Governor Cleophas Lagat after health workers in the devolved unit pleaded with the electorate to send him packing.

The medics said that this was the only way to see to it that any meaningful gain is made in the devolved unit.

They regretted that no meaningful projects have been witnessed in the county since its inception five years ago.

“Nandi County has always been ranked as the worst county in terms of improving Healthcare services a clear or perhaps vivid indication that those in charge of the health department in our county are incompetent,” said the health workers.

This is after an Eldoret based human rights group petitioned the Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to lock out the four North Rift region Governors from contesting in the polls.

This follows public outcry from residents that the county chiefs are unable to explain how they have spent billions of shillings allocated to their counties.

The other three Governors include; Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Patrick Khaemba (Trans Nzoia).

HKK has reiterated that he is the best-suited candidate to unseat the incumbent governor.
