Chaotic scenes marred Jubilee strongholds as the party’s primaries to pick candidates for the August 8 General Election flopped.

Nandi is among counties where violent incidents were reported with youths barricading major roads, storming polling centres and burning ballot papers in protest.

In Nandi, infuriated Jubilee supporters blocked the Kapsabet-Eldoret road demanding that voting be postponed to give time for printing of more ballots. Police fired in the air to disperse the crowd.

Many of the protests were sparked by a shortage of ballot papers and late arrival of election materials

It is now emerging that a high powered meeting took place at weakling Nandi gubernatorial aspirant Felix Koskey residence in Kamonjil, Chesumei ward.

The meeting according to our insiders was attended by the host, flamboyant businessman David Lagat, a one Mr Murgor and an influential party official.

“They used the meeting to strategize on how to work with security officers and other people following orders from above. This included staffing ballot papers and pre-marking them using some inside secretive,” said our source who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

After the meeting, the group retreated to Poa Place Resort in Eldoret Town where they were joined by Elgeyo Marakwet County Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, his Nandi counterpart Stephen Sang, Deputy President William Ruto’s top aide, Mr Farouk Kibet and one unidentified individual.

Some few moments later, Kapseret parliamentary aspirant Steve Kewa in a company of others joined the group though on a parallel mission on Kapseret theatrics.

“The sealed deal at Poa Place was to rig votes in favor of Felix Kosgey then later appoint the fast fading Stephen Sang as his running mate ahead of the August 8 polls as ordered from above. This was to be done as option A, having premiered it from the first meeting in Kamonjil,” added the source.

If this fails, Felix should go into political oblivion, remain silent throughout because he could be the biggest casualty, instead, Sang should come out strongly, attack the motive securely, extend the hate to Felix himself, abstain himself in order to fully conceal any of the planned theatrics.

The meeting is said to have ended at 11 pm on Thursday night before the rigging process kicked off.

According to the source, the benefactors would be “above” DL and the highly influential “fugitive”

The ruling party was to carry out nominations in 21 counties across the country, many of them in its central and Rift Valley strongholds.
